Rotary’s Guiding Principles…

Throughout Rotary’s history, several basic principles have been developed to guide Rotarians in achieving the ideal of service and high ethical standards.  The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:  First  The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; Second  High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; Third  The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life; Fourth  The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Veterans History Project 100th Interview…

The Veteran's History Project, which is partly funded with Rotary donations, and is now considered a joint-project of the Rotary Club of Sedona and the Sedona Public Library, recently celebrated its 100th Sedona Veterans Interview.  Former Marine (Vietnam) and Sedona resident Joel Harms was the 100th local veteran interviewed for this important project. Also, several members of our club have been recently interviewed and several more are now scheduled. These video-taped interviews, usually lasting about an hour and a half, are forwarded to the Library of Congress along with pertinent paper-work. A DVD copy is archived at the Sedona Library.  Club member Renata Barnwell and husband, Richard now attend our meetings and Richard will be acting as a videographer for future interviews. If any other veteran members of the club would like to become part of this living history, please contact Merv Shapan for details and scheduling.

District Governor Nominee…

Sara Jane Feldman, a member of the White Tanks Rotary Club, was selected as District 5490 Nominee for District Governor 2011-2012.  Rotary International bylaws allow all clubs in the district an opportunity to challenge this selection.  Clubs have until April 1, 2009 to do this.
