ShelterBox provides emergency shelters around the world

Rotarian Sharee Sheets, spokesperson for ShelterBox USA, attended the club's July 16 meeting to present on disaster relief the organization is making around the globe. About 85 million people around the world have been displaced by natural disaster and conflict. Sharee said ShelterBox has helped 1.5 million people and is currently providing aid to flooding victims in Paraguay and Malawi in South Africa, victims in the ongoing conflict in Syria (pictured in photo), victims of violence in Lake Chad Basin, Somalia, and more. She said the organization is approaching its 20th anniversary and is nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. ShelterBox is Rotary International's only project partner in disaster relief. The club's Foundation Director Dick Youngberg, said our club has contributed $7,300 toward shelter boxes. Sharee said Rotarians can also help by volunteering.
