David Simmer Parade

District 5495 holds honorary parade for DG David Simmer

David Simmer was stunned to see a social distancing parade pass by his and Isabel's home on Saturday, June 20, to honor his term as District 5495 Governor. Rotarians around the state ventured to Sedona to thank David for his efforts in supporting district clubs and Rotary ideals. "You guys drove all the way here! This is unbelievable," David said. Rotarians gave David cards and gifts as they drove past. "I'm so excited. This is shocking. I can't believe you all came out. I really appreciate it." David thanks all his friends in Rotary for this special tribute! Meeting Highlights

Don't miss the club's Installation Ceremony on June 30

It's time to say thank you to outgoing Club President Paul Tibbs and to congratulate Al Barton as he starts his term as Club President for 2020-21 during the Installation Ceremony to be held at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 30 on Zoom. Board officers will also be installed and club directors introduced. Al will share club goals and the year's focus on fellowship and membership. During Paul's last club meeting he thanked club members for their support. "I appreciate everybody's efforts in helping to make our community a better place for everyone."

Club's Rotary Exchange Student says adieu

Louise Desquesness (right), the club's Rotary Exchange Student from Belgium, said farewell during the May 26 meeting held on Zoom. Louise shared her exchange experiences and future plans. "I didn't know anyone when I first came," she said. Louise joined the swim team at Red Rock High School and took many hikes around Sedona. She lived with two host families: Penny and Tony Blazej and Paul, Tracey and MacKenzie Tibbs. Highlights of her exchange in the U.S. include Rotary Exchange Weekend at Jennette Bill's home, homecoming, Christmas on the beach in Florida and her birthday, dressing up for prom, and visiting places like Antelope Canyon and San Diego, Calif. When she returns home to her family she will focus on attending Belgium University. And she already has a roommate. "I had a really great time. Thanks to all my host families. I had a great year! Thanks so much." Also in the photo is MacKenzie Tibbs.

Vino Di Sedona sponsored Club soiree

The club gives a special thanks to Wes Schemmer, owner of Vino Di Sedona for sponsoring a wine tasting soiree via Zoom held May 19. Club members could pick up a complimentary bottle of red or white wine or a four pack of ale to drink during the Zoom get together. Wes showcased and critiqued the wine and ale. In case you didn't tune in or would like to purchase more of what you tried, here's the selection: Duvel Classic Belgain Golden Ale from one of Europe’s greatest breweries dating back to 1871. An excellent flavor packed dinner beer, will pair with about anything; Domaine Delsol Picpoul De Pinet, lovely semi-dry warm weather white; and Gérard Bertand Corbières Grenache / Syrah / Mourvèdre, soft silky complex little red. Very food friendly. Thanks again Wes for making our social distancing fun!
