Rotarian Wendy Knight educates club members about hospice

Club member Wendy Knight, community educator of Hospice of Northern Arizona, says hospice care is a team approach for individuals in advanced stages of illness. She said patients are assigned a nurse, a social worker, and home health aide and chaplain if they choose. Care is designed to support all family members during the illness. Wendy is working to educate the community and healthcare providers so patients can receive hospice care earlier. "The earlier an individual receives care, the more opportunity there is to stabilize a medical condition. Some patients actually improve and can be discharged from hospice care."  She adds that hospice care is a benefit paid through Medicare and Medicaid as well as most private insurances.
