About The Rotary Club of Sedona

What would it take to change the world?

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto:

Service Above Self

Sedona is a unique community.  Not only has it been recognized as the number one most beautiful place in America, Sedona is also an example of positive community cooperation and growth.

Since 1958 the Rotary Club of Sedona has been an integral part of Sedona’s ethic of cooperation.  Community Service is at the core of Rotary International’s goal and the Club’s purpose of Service Above Self.

Each year the Club sponsors a variety of fund raising events to support its community service projects.  The Club proudly links with other community agencies to meet identified needs within the Sedona community.   Youth edcation and development is a special focus and every year the Club works with the faculty and parents of Red Rock High School to recognize eight outstanding senior students with College scholarships totaling $6,000.    Club sponsored Rotary Exchange students have been part of the Red Rock High School student body for many years. Junior and senior students from the High School are also selected and sponsored to participate in the District’s annual RYLA camp.

On a regular basis, Club members don their aprons as Chefs and chef’s helpers to prepare and serve dinners for the needy at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.   On a bimonthly basis, Club members will be found on Highway 89A West of Sedona cleaning up trash.  This ADOT Adopt-A-Highway project has been ongoing for twenty years.

The Sedona Public Library partners with our Rotarians to hold weekly recorded interviews with former armed service members for the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project.

Sedona’s special needs individuals are being helped by a joint project with the Red Rock Quilters organization.  Through Rotarian contributions and the District’s simplified grant program, quilts are created and provided to youngsters placed in foster care or released for adoption and the elderly living in institutions. (Photo: a quilter models one of the quilts.)  During the holiday season, Club members look forward to sponsoring a gingerbread house decorating party for students of St. John Vianney Church’s English as a second language program.

The Rotary Club of Sedona has helped recognize the unique diversity within the city through “New Years All Year Around” celebrations cosponsored by ethnic and religious organizations in Sedona.  Fascinating, educational and well attended “New Years” dinner events have been held for Korean, Jewish, Chinese and Thai New Years.

Knowing and working alongside our neighbors and friends in Sedona, Rotary Club of Sedona members understand the meaning of community and eagerly embrace new opportunities of service above self.
